This upcoming show will feature a collection of landscape paintings from Caesar, a Virginia based artist.
His new body of work is a series of canvases based on the rural scenery of the lower Chesapeake Bay. Having spent the past few years living and working in the tidewater region, taking photos of the fields and the reeds throughout the changing seasons and the rising tides has been a regular past time.
These images become the paintings. The brushwork is loose and lofty, pushing and pulling horizon lines, fencing off water and light. This aesthetic is under the influence of impressionist painters like Bonnard and Monet, and the landscape paintings of the late great Wayne Thiebaud.
In all, this show offers a solid group of traditional landscape paintings on canvas, celebrating the subtle beauty of thisunique coastal community.
