Before the revolutionary rock musical Rent, Jonathan Larson had another story to tell: his own.
tick, tick... BOOM! is a three-character musical about facing crossroads in life and holding onto your dreams. It tells the story of Jon, a promising composer, on the eve of his thirtieth birthday. His girlfriend wants to get married and move out of the city (tick); his best friend is making big bucks on Madison Avenue (tick); and he's still waiting tables and trying to write a hit musical before time, and life, passes him by (BOOM!).
Jonathan Larson is a Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winning composer best known for the musical Rent, the success of which he never got the opportunity to see; he passed away unexpectedly of an aortic aneurysm less than 24 hours before the first Broadway performance of the show.
This semi-autobiographical musical is about the life of a young artist in New York City at the dawn of the 90s, as the trials and tribulations of striving for greatness challenge his persistence and his personal relationships. Why pursue the dream if it could cost everything? Why do we do what we do?"
