About this Event
It was reported in 2024 that the northeast Georgia counties have had an increased incidence rate in thyroid cancer. The talk will discuss the epidemiologic trends, the clinical presentation of and review causes of thyroid cancer. The talk will also give insight on steps faculty at the University of North Georgia are taking to look into this increased incidence rate.
Dr. Neal Lin is an associate professor in the Biology Department at the University of North Georgia (UNG) . He graduated from Ross University School of Medicine, received his Master of Public Health from Yale and completed his Bachelor of Science in Microbiology at the University of California, San Diego. Prior to coming to UNG, Dr. Lin worked for over ten years in public health, conducting research internationally and working for local and federal public health agencies. Dr. Lin has interests in infectious diseases and has worked on pediatric HIV, Dengue, Avian Influenza, pandemic preparedness, foodborne illnesses and most recently, Botulism.
