About this Event
Join Harlem River Farms for our weekly Thursday Garden Crawl—a hands-on volunteer experience where we work together to maintain and improve community gardens across Houston.
This week, we’re supporting Alabama Gardens, one of Houston’s historic community garden spaces.
🌱 What This Is:
This is a working volunteer session, not just a tour.
We’ll be actively helping with:
- Garden maintenance
- Planting and harvesting
- Bed preparation and cleanup
- General improvements to the space
🛠️ What You’ll Do:
- Get your hands in the soil
- Work alongside community members and growers
- Contribute directly to local food production
- Help strengthen a shared community resource
🌿 What You’ll Gain:
- Hands-on gardening experience
- Practical growing knowledge you can use at home
- A deeper connection to the Third Ward community
- The opportunity to be part of something meaningful
💡 Why This Matters:
Community gardens like Alabama Gardens require consistent care to thrive.
By volunteering, you’re helping:
- Increase local food production
- Support neighborhood access to fresh food
- Strengthen community ownership of shared spaces
This is part of our broader effort to build a more sustainable, community-driven food system in Houston.
