Cora Annex, Ridgway
Saturday September 6 (Rain date: September 7), 9am-5pm
Class tuition: $200
Registration required by September 4th: https://weehawkenarts.org/education/adult-art-classes/
Join us for an immersive outdoor painting workshop, designed to refine your plein air painting skills. Led by Tina Duemler, this class will guide you through sorting what is seen outdoors and developing effective approaches to painting outdoors. Throughout the day, Tina will provide short demonstrations and lead discussions about technique, tailored to enhance your skills. You'll receive individualized attention as you explore building strong compositions, understanding color theory, values, and mastering edges.
This class is open to beginners with some experience, as well as seasoned outdoor painters. Whether you prefer watercolor, oils, drawing, or acrylics, all mediums are welcome. We will break for lunch and at the end of the day to share our experiences and discoveries. At the end of the day, you will have 1-2 small paintings to take home.
Please be prepared for all kinds of weather. Unless we get heavy rain or snow, the class will proceed. If weather conditions prevent outdoor painting, the workshop will be conducted on the following day, Sunday, September 7th.
You will receive an email two days before the class with the exact location to meet up in Ouray County. Depending on conditions and the group’s interests, you may walk up to one mile on a level but uneven trail to access the plein air painting location. Please refer to the supply list below and bring your preferred art materials.

About Tina Duemler:
From an early age, Tina Duemler was always creating and making things. As a teenager, her passion for art was solidified when she attended a Monet exhibit—an experience that inspired her to incorporate art into her life. After working in other professions and raising a young family, she found a way to fully pursue her artistic dreams.
Duemler earned both a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Fine Arts in Art from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where she studied under Carol Pylant and David Becker. Committed to continuous learning, she further honed her skills with renowned artists Carolyn Anderson, Scott Christensen, Daniel Gerhartz, Matt Smith, and Skip Whitcomb. She draws inspiration from American painters Edward Hopper and Fairfield Porter, as well as Dutch master Jan Vermeer.
An active advocate for the arts, Duemler has served as an art juror and contributed to numerous arts-focused committees at both local and regional levels. She has taught art extensively, leading artist-in-residence programs in Southern Wisconsin schools and helping to expand arts education at a local art center. For 19 years, she has taught painting and drawing at a community college, and she enjoys sharing her passion through workshops in Colorado.
Duemler’s paintings have earned local, regional, and state awards, and she has exhibited her work in juried shows throughout the Midwest. Her artwork is held in private and corporate collections across the U.S., and she has also exhibited in Colorado.
Please note: This class requires a minimum of 4 students to be held and has a set maximum enrollment limit. To help ensure the class runs as scheduled, we encourage early registration. If you sign up, please check your email (and Spam folder), as any cancellation notice will be sent from [email protected] by or before September 4th.
