“Through the Years” – A Presentation of 20 Years of the Gulf Coast Artists’ Alliance
Established in 2006 by founder Judy Vienneau, the Gulf Coast Artists’ Alliance Inc. has operated as a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization in Pinellas County, providing local artists with opportunities to exhibit and sell their artwork, as well as network with other artists. The comradery and friendships developed throughout the years within this membership organization have inspired and created a community of artists who help each other and work together. Many successful and well-known artists in the local Tampa Bay community have gotten their start at one of GCAA’s locations, with the support and encouragement of this group.
GCAA has had physical locations in Clearwater, Dunedin, and for the past 15 years in St. Pete, providing group and solo artist exhibitions, as well as studios, gift shops, classes, and live music venues. The annual GCAA “Cirque du Surreal” multi-media events at various community venues from 2008 to 2012 are legendary! Known at St. Pete ArtWorks, GCAA spearheaded a retail cooperative gallery, which moved to different locations on Central Ave. St. Pete over a 10-year period, beginning in the 600 block in 2013. During that time, the organization also operated satellite locations for studios and classes - Avenue 5 Art Studio in St. Pete and then GCAA Creative Zone in Pinellas Park. Art Instruction, Fashion Shows, Artsy Rummage Sales, Halloween Celebrations, Documentary Film Nights, Pride Celebrations, Outdoor Indie Markets and Concerts are just a sampling of the activities that have taken place over the last 20 years.
“Through the Years” will be on view at the GCAA ArtWorks Gallery September 3 through October 3, featuring exhibition posters and a “who’s who” slide show of faces from over the years.
Scheduled public activities include:
• A Reception will be held during Art Walk, September 12 from 5 to 9 pm, with live music by multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter Berkley Grimball.
• An Open House with Artist Demonstrations will take place on Saturday Sept. 26 from 12-3pm.
• An Open Mic featuring local musicians will take place on Sunday Sept. 27 from 2-5pm.
