Three-week Fabric Printing Evening Course

Join printmaker Helen Darlington across three evenings in September and October to learn a variety of materials and techniques for fabric printing and produce your own unique designs.

Sessions run 22 Sept, 29 Sept and 6 Oct, 6 - 8.30pm.

Week 1 - Creating Pattern

This fun, experimental session will build your creative confidence and guide you in working with shape and colour to compose new designs and create fabulous patterns.

Week 2 - Repeat Block Printing

In this session you will learn how to create a continuous repeat pattern with your own hand carved blocks, gaining tips and techniques to get the best results from your materials.

Week 3 - Stencil Screen Printing

You will progress to using a silk screen and water based inks print bold, colourful patterns onto a cotton tea towel.

What will I need to bring?

Please bring with you any images, drawings or photos for inspiration. For this series of short sessions, simple, bold images work best, such as flowers or geometric shapes.

Materials and equipment, aprons, and refreshments will be provided.

Please wear old clothes as printing can get messy.

About Carousel Print Studio

Carousel Print Studio is a not for profit charity based on the ground floor of Yorkshire Art Space, Exchange Place Studios in Sheffield. Carousel provide printmaking workshops and facilities for creatives in Sheffield, in a bright, warm, accessible and well equipped studio.

Carousel studio is located on the ground floor just to the left of reception. The doors are widened for ease of access and there is an accessible toilet. If you have any questions regarding access needs please do contact us at [email protected]

About the Tutor

This course is led by Sheffield artist and printmaker Helen Darlington.

A graduate of Fine Art at Sheffield Hallam University. Helen has worked for several of the visual art institutions in the area, including Cupola Gallery, The Art House Wakefield, and Site Gallery.

For the last ten years Helen has traded as Robin’s Room, making and selling fine linen home wares hand printed with her own intricate linocut designs.
