Explore the escape of the James/Younger Gang as they tried to evade the largest manhunt in US history of its time at the Rice County Historical Society on May 28th at 6pm!Russ Swanson began exploring the story of the 1876 Northfield Bank Robbery and the James/Younger Gang after discovering the remnants of an 1870s homestead on his property. That homestead belonged to Peter Wahl, who was robbed of his horse at gunpoint by Frank and Jesse James, just a few miles from his home near Canton, South Dakota. Swanson wrote the book "A Chase to the Death", which is a day-by-day pursuit of the gang as they fled for their lives throughout Minnesota, Dakota Territory, and Iowa.
