***** THIS CLASS IS FULL ***** 2026 - Aaron & Andy Mayer - Cottonwood Bark Class
Andy and Aaron Mayer are brothers from Colorado Springs, Colorado. They have been carving since 2006, when a gentleman at their church introduced them to it. In 2017, they taught their first class, and have since taught throughout the central U.S. They have been featured in Woodcarving Illustrated multiple times and together have won several top prizes in competition.
Students will have a choice of carving a bark cottage or a bark church for their project.
COTTAGE: This project is carved from two pieces of bark and joined together for a near seamless fit and, if time
allows, a tree to enhance the house.
CHURCH: This project may be a bit challenging, even for experienced carvers, but it will help take your skill to the next level. Students will begin with a piece of cottonwood bark cut out to basic shape of a church. You will learn new and different techniques to create your own customized details, using your own ideas or ideas from pictures of churches that will be provided.
Tools Needed:
Carving knife, safety glove, 3/32 v-tool, needle file set (may be purchased from instructor for $10.00), pin vise with small drill bits, 1/8” & 1/4” #1 chisels, 5/16” #7 U-gouge. (ruler, drafter's compass, and a large metal file for the church project)
Cost of the 2-day class - $130/ person plus the cost of the bark which will be $20-$25.
Minimum number of students - 5
