ThirdSpace Sessions: Lin Hsiao-Feng

ThirdSpace Sessions was inspired by improvisational guitarist Derek Bailey’s musical collective named ‘Company’. The idea behind ‘Company’ was to bring together an ever-changing collection of free improvising musicians, in order to create a challenging and artistically stimulating combinations of players who might not otherwise have had an opportunity to work together.

Lin Hsiao-Feng

Lin Hsiao-Feng, a Taiwanese musician celebrated for his avant-garde style, is a virtuoso of woodwind instruments, particularly the bamboo flute. Over the past decade, he has frequently collaborated with artists around the world to produce unique mini concerts that integrate music with poetry, calligraphy, dance, and martial arts. Blending traditional Chinese music with contemporary improvisation, Lin has consistently captivated and delighted audiences both at home and on the international stage.

Recognized as a rising star in New Taipei City’s music scene since 2017, Lin has relentlessly pushed the boundaries of musical expression. His notable concerts, such as Forgetting JiangHu – Lin Hsiao-Feng’s Flute Concert (2017) and The Realm of Sound and Shadow – Experimental Flute Music Expansion Project (2021), the latter supported by a National Arts Association grant, have cemented his reputation as a visionary artist. He has also developed his own instrument line, the Wu-Wei Chinese Bamboo Flute Series, which embodies the elegance and simplicity of oriental aesthetics.

• There are no bathrooms inside the Battlebox, the closest bathrooms are at Hotel Fort Canning (3 mins away)
• The bunker is air-conditioned.
• Battlebox is not wheelchair accessible.

• The organizers reserve the right to remove anyone who is disrespectful to others or the space.
• No smoking inside the Battlebox.
• Put your trash in the bins provided or take it with you.
• Be respectful of our neighbours – keep your voices down when entering/leaving the Battlebox.
• Battlebox is a historical site, please treat it with care.
• Parts of the Battlebox will be closed off for the event – do not wander beyond the barriers.
