Mitchelltown Artists Launch Monthly Art Walk on Blount Street
Reviving Community Spirit Through Creativity—First Event Slated for May 17
After a hiatus in neighborhood arts programming following the COVID-19 pandemic, the artists of Kinston’s historic Mitchelltown district are bringing back community engagement in a fresh way. Launching Saturday, May 17, 2025, a new recurring event—Third Saturdays in Mitchelltown—will showcase the district's vibrant creative community with an outdoor art walk along the 300–400 blocks of Blount Street.
Inspired by the pre-pandemic open houses once hosted by the SmART Kinston initiative, this artist-led effort marks a grassroots revival of the district’s artistic visibility. On the third Saturday of each month, local artists will line both sides of Blount Street, exhibiting original works, demonstrating their mediums in real time, and offering pieces for sale. From painters and sculptors to textile and mixed-media creators, the event invites residents and visitors alike to experience art being made and shared in the heart of the neighborhood.
Organizers hope the event will foster renewed connections between artists and the public, while strengthening Mitchelltown’s role as a cultural hub in Kinston.
