Third Conference of the Aotearoa | New Zealand Federation of Socialist Societies

Barbarism is back on the agenda, whether driven by neocolonial war, the insane pursuit of artificial intelligence, or simply the insidious austerity of zombie economics.
Our best instincts of neighbourly common sense have achieved miracles in the last century, including in housing, health, education and the right to vote. But all of those gains are threatened by the reckless waste of capitalism.
The Aotearoa | New Zealand Federation of Socialist Societies has at its heart a restatement of the core principles of socialism in creative engagement with the world as it is, not as we wish it to be.
We are proud to host as our International Guest of Honour S'bu Zikode, who has long been at the forefront of the fight against austerity, and for a "living communism" based in the shanty towns of post apartheid South Africa. In the most difficult circumstances, in one of the most unequal countries in the world, Zikode and his comrades are imagining and building a socialist future.

You are warmly invited to join in this two day conference, featuring international and local speakers, which takes as its theme that most fundamental of propositions: 'Socialism or Barbarism'.
A brief programme is attached to this event, but more detailed spotlights on each session will follow over the coming weeks.
Registration is open to all via this link: https://forms.gle/TMaWRXNwXYStRaK68. Please note that there is a fee to attend, but arrangements can be made where that fee is prohibitive.
This event is accessible, child friendly, and non sectarian.

S'bu Zikode is the President of Abahlali baseMjondolo, a socialist movement of South African shack dwellers, and you can learn about that movement via this link:
