Jonathan Hirons

On the Tip of My Tongue

On the Tip of My Tongue: A Story of Aphasia and Resilience

This is the story of “On the Tip of My Tongue,” a film inspired by Jonathan Hirons’ real-life experience with aphasia. It all began in 2019 during a London meeting. Suddenly, Jonathan couldn’t speak, his thoughts trapped. He couldn’t form sentences, write, or even remember his own phone number.

Diagnosed with aphasia, a condition affecting the language center of the brain, his world was turned upside down. This is a story of resilience, of finding new ways to communicate and connect, even when the familiar pathways are blocked.

Join us as we explore Jonathan’s journey through the challenges and triumphs of aphasia, and discover the power of the human spirit to find its voice, even when it seems lost.

Alexandra Pfister MD, Neurologist

and Co-director of Casual Fifth Performance Ensemble

"Launching the Philly NeuroArts Network"

Alexandra Pfister, MD is a Neurologist, dancer and drummer. She began dancing and playing Taiko (Japanese drumming) in college and continued her artistic pursuits while also completing her training in neurology. She is now a Neurohospitalist at the University of Pennsylvania where she works with people with many different neurologic experiences. Her interests in the arts and the nervous system have been merging over time, seeing how the creative process stretches the mind and body, no matter the circumstances. She started a dance program for people with Multiple Sclerosis and is a board member of the Tango Therapy Project, offering adapted tango classes to people with Parkinson's Disease. Alex is spearheading an initiative called the Philly Neuro Arts Network to foster connections amongst local neuro-focused arts organizations and help people living with neurologic conditions access arts programming. She is an active artist herself and co-directs Casula Fifth, a modern dance and taiko performance ensemble in Philadelphia.
