What does representation mean, and for whom?
About this Event

What does representation mean, and for whom? Framed within the parameters of the photographic medium, this seminar-workshop unpacks the concept of representation through the lens of "image equity," specifically calibrated to the context of Singapore. It begins by examining curatorial case studies that have broached parallel concerns, using them to map out propositions for discussion. Participants will have opportunities to discuss about photographic representation to inform their own projects and/or cultivate a critical awareness of socio-visual literacy with other participants.

The seminar-workshop will revolve around the following questions:

  1. Why is image equity important in shaping a dynamic artistic and photographic landscape in Singapore and beyond?
  2. How can image equity within an exhibitionary context serve as a social forum and "contact point" to prime our visual appetite for complexity?
  3. What are some ways to "choreograph" the photographic medium as an exhibitionary proposition?

The seminar-workshop seeks to attune creative practitioners and arts audiences to modes of photographic representation as both an artistic and social endeavor. Participants can expect to build practical skills based on selected case studies and collaborate with other participants during group discussions.
