Thinking Chairs: Circular Fashion and Multispecies Design
About this Event
The project explores how principles of circular fashion can be translated into ecological, public design. At its centre are two sculptural armchairs that function as seating for humans, worm-based textile composting systems, and vertical gardens and habitats for insects and urban wildlife.
Created using upcycled, reclaimed and compostable materials, the installation investigates how direct engagement with material transformation may influence perceptions of value, waste and care. The research asks whether witnessing textile decomposition and sharing space with non-human species can shape attitudes towards material use, composting and relationships with the natural environment.
Visitors will be invited to engage with the installation and contribute reflections by scanning a QR code, helping document responses to sensory experience, wellbeing and sustainable behaviour. The project contributes to wider conversations around circular, regenerative and more-than-human design.
