Thinking about Breathing Judith Lawson
“Nature” is a continuous, dynamic, interconnected system where every component relies on and influences the other. If we think about breathing, simply staying alive, we must think about trees.
There is just 24% of the dense forest that once covered Aotearoa left. Forest removal has transformed the landscape, causing widespread erosion, loss of biodiversity, loss of food sources, interruption of water cycles, flooding, climate change. A loss that has contributed to a spiritual disconnect many of us feel.
All things, not just human, have a way of communicating, an interconnecting force linking organisms, matter and phenomena. This exhibition is about listening to the other, pausing, reflecting on what matters to us all.
