Think Outside the Box: A collaborative STEAM Challenge

Children ages 5 and up will participate in a hands-on, collaborative STEM experience using everyday boxes and materials. Working together in small groups, children will plan, design, and build creative structures while learning key STEM concepts such as problem-solving, teamwork, and critical thinking.

This activity encourages communication, creativity, and leadership as children share ideas, test solutions, and adjust their designs. The focus is on collaboration rather than competition, allowing every child to contribute, feel confident, and experience success.

Parents can expect an engaging, purposeful activity that supports early engineering skills, social development, and a love for learning — all through play-based exploration.

10:00 – 10:15 | Welcome & Introduction
Children are welcomed, review expectations, and learn about collaboration and teamwork for the day.

10:15 – 10:45 | Planning & Design Time
Children work in small groups to brainstorm ideas, sketch designs, and plan their box structures.

10:45 – 12:00 | Build & Create
Hands-on building begins! Children collaborate, problem-solve, and test their designs using boxes and materials.

12:00 – 12:30 | Lunch & Movement Break
Time to refuel, relax, and enjoy light movement activities.

12:30 – 1:30 | Build, Improve & Innovate
Children return to their projects to strengthen, redesign, and enhance their structures based on what they’ve learned.

1:30 – 2:00 | Share, Reflect & Wrap-Up
Groups share their creations, reflect on teamwork and problem-solving, and celebrate their accomplishments.
