In the early 1900's in Ottawa, Illinois, four women working at the Radium Dial Company face a heart-rending dilemma. Hired to paint illuminated faces on watch dials, Catherine, Charlotte, Frances, and Pearl develop independence as workers and forge close ties as friends. When Catherine falls ill, truths about the radium used to paint the watches slowly emerges and the women must choose how they will respond.
Based on the true story of the Radium Girls, THESE SHINING LIVES chronicles the strength and determination of women considered expendable in their day. Catherine and her friends are dying, it’s true; but theirs is a story of survival in its most transcendent sense, as they refuse to allow the company that stole their health to K*ll their spirits—or endanger the lives of those who come after them.
