About this Event
Join us for a programme of collective care around water. We will be exploring our relationship to it: how it shapes us, how it makes us feel, and what it means for care, justice, and collective wellbeing.
Everyone is welcome. You don’t need to be able to swim, feel confident in water, or speak fluent English.

How do we care for our local water? How does water care for us?
Join us for a relaxed outdoor session exploring the salt marsh together. Expect to walk, learn about the habitat, notice plants and wildlife, and spend time by the sea.
Together we will:
- Visit the salt marsh and learn about this unique environment
- Discover local plants
- Share food and time together
We will share small tastes of edible plants.
This will be a welcoming space
- Take part in your own way; no pressure to speak
- You choose how close to the water you’d like to be - we will be on paths at all points
Please wear clothes you don’t mind getting muddy. Wellies are encouraged.
All are welcome.
WHERE TO MEET AND HOW TO GET THERE
Option 1; driving)
- Meet at The Ride car park opposite Chelson Meadows for an 11am start
Option 2; by bus)
- Meet at Exeter Street Bus Stop (55-57 Exeter Street, PL40AH) at 10.30am and we will travel together (15 minute bus ride - we will cover the bus fares).

ABOUT THE ARTIST: Dana Olărescu is an artist who works with communities to address issues like discrimination against minority groups and environmental harm. She creates projects that invite people to take part, making art and knowledge more open and accessible.
Her work has been showcased in leading arts institutions and platforms, including Tate Modern, the London Short Film Festival, the National Maritime Museum, the Low Carbon Design Institute, Art Gene, ArtHouse Jersey, Art Walk Projects, x-church, in-situ, Pier Projects, Incheon Art Platform (South Korea), La Virgule (France), and Tanzhaus NRW (Germany).
ABOUT THE PROGRAMME: This session is part of an on-going enquiry led by Owen Griffiths as part of There is No New Water – Toolkit for Ocean Citizen Action. This 12 month project invites local people to explore what the ocean means to them, reflect on their role as coastal citizens, and co-create a community-led artwork/toolkit focused on ocean justice, care, and climate action.
All sessions are free and open to anyone based in Plymouth who is passionate about Ocean Civic Justice and happy to spend time in the East End.
Ocean Cultures is a two-year programme funded by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, aiming to establish a community-led model for ocean climate justice in Plymouth, UK.
