Twenty-five years ago, Kristi and Doug Luecke faced the unimaginable, the loss of their son, Nic, to suicide. In their grief, they created the There is HOPE Walk to honor his memory and support others in grief and loss. In 2005, they turned the event over to MHA Lakeshore. To this day, the walk continues to offer hope, healing, and connection. It’s more than an event; it’s a symbol of resilience and compassion for our entire community. What began as a family’s tribute has become MHA Lakeshore’s largest community event, advancing our mission to promote mental health through education, support, advocacy, and public health reform. We walk for those we’ve lost to suicide, for the survivors of the darkest moments, for those who feel unseen, and for anyone still fighting their silent battles. We walk to remind the world: it’s okay to not be okay—and asking for help is a sign of strength. We walk for the families and loved ones who carry the weight of an empty chair, a quiet room, and a heart forever changed by loss. Walking Together for Hope
There is HOPE is an annual fundraising and suicide awareness walk held along the scenic shores of Lake Michigan in Sheboygan, WI. More than just a walk, it’s a powerful gathering that honors lives lost to suicide, uplifts those grieving, and unites the community in a shared commitment to mental health. It offers a space of solidarity and healing for anyone facing mental health challenges. All proceeds directly support our life-saving programs in suicide prevention and mental health advocacy.
*Must register by August 15 to be guaranteed a t-shirt!

Event timeline:
8:30 AM Registration (no need to register if you picked up your shirt during t-shirt pick-up day)
Be sure to purchase raffle tickets!!!
9:30 AM Opening ceremony
10:00 AM One-mile walk along Lake Michigan (or your location)
10 AM-Noon Food, raffle, and community sharing
11:30 AM – We will start drawing raffle winners!
