The8fest: 19th Edition

For our 19th year, we’re presenting a film installation, a curated programme of films that explore the natural and supernatural, and the newest iteration of the8fest x Home Movie History Project.

Drawing from the abundance of home movie collections we have unearthed lately, we present some truly amazing moments - both unusual and familiar - all of everyday life captured by the amateur's camera.

From the 1950s to the 70s we sample excerpts filmed in Toronto and further afield, including...Clowning and drinking at an ice fishing shack on Lake Simcoe; Learning to ride a bike with training wheels; Women doing each other's hair in swimsuits at a campground; Travelling to Bristol UK for a big family gathering; The CNE seen from the Bulova tower in 1964; Middle-aged guests dance a conga line; Mothers stage manage the perfect kids' birthday party; The view from a propeller fighter plane flying in formation; and Girls try to balance in one-legged poses for the camera.
