the87press & Round Table Books present: Hummingbirds, a literary salon

This special edition of Hummingbirds: a literary salon curated by the87press, celebrates the opening of Roundtable Books' new space in the Granville Arcade, Brixton. As such this event will feature readings from four poets only, allowing readers to browse the new shelves at one of our favourite independent bookstores in the UK.

Doors at 7 for a 7:15pm start. Close: 9pm

This event is supported by and organised in collaboration with the University of London Institute in Paris; it is also part of the87press contribution as an official partner of the National Year of Reading 2026.

All proceeds from the sale of books from the87press at this event will go directly to Roundtable to support their Fundraiser.

Limited capacity as we will be joined by a cohort of students from University of London Institute in Paris.

Karenjit Sandhu’s publications include gestalt and young girls! (the87Press), Poetic Fragments from the Irritating Archive (Guillemot Press), and Baby 19 (intergraphia). Her artists’ books are held in the Tate Library and have been exhibited internationally. Her performances, staged at leading institutions, include the ICA, Barbican, Southbank Centre, and Arnolfini. She is co-editor of the Journal of British & Irish Innovative Poetry, a member of the British Art Network, and writes on contemporary British and South Asian art.

James Goodwin is a poet doing a PhD in English and Humanities at Birkbeck, University of London with a thesis on the blacksociopoetics of marronage, breath, sacrality and emanation. His pamphlet, aspects caught in the headspace we’re in: composition for friends, was published by Face Press; and his debut book, Fleshed Out For All The Corners Of The Slip, is forthcoming with the 87press. He serves on the Editorial Advisory Board for the Journal of British and Irish Innovative Poetry.

Sabeen Chaudhry is a poet, lecturer, and producer. Rimming the Event Horizon (The 87 Press) is her first collection, poems from which have been longlisted for the Ivan Juritz Prize and highly commended in the Forward Prizes.

dove, Christine Kirubi is a poet-artist based in London. She is the author of WILDPLASSEN published with the87press and Partures. published with Gong Farm.
