About
Lanternfish Press, founded in Philadelphia in 2014, publishes literature of the rare and strange: fiction that crosses the boundary between literary and speculative; real or imagined tales of characters at the margins of history; essays rooted in a strong sense of place; a cabinet of curious Victorian reprints. We seek the grotesque, the alien made familiar, the “I don’t know what this is—but I love it.”
Lanternfish aims to make books and publication accessible to readers and writers who fall outside the literary mainstream, whether in race, sexuality, gender, situation, or pure individual oddity. We're a home for books that defy pigeonholes—and for the readers who love them.
About Christine Neulieb
Christine Neulieb (they/she) earned a PhD in ancient Greek philosophy of literature in 2009. After finishing the twenty-fourth grade, they went to work in publishing and cofounded Lanternfish Press in 2014. They have served as Lanternfish’s editorial director ever since and attended the Clarion West Writers Workshop in 2015.
About Feliza Casano
Feliza Casano (she/her) is the Marketing and Sales Director at Lanternfish Press, where she started as assistant publicist in 2017. She holds an MA in Publishing from Rosemont College, and her reviews and essays have been published at Unbound Worlds, The Portalist, and Reactor Magazine.
About Andrew Katz
Andrew Katz is an avid reader and writer and thinks that the written word is a huge boon for people’s mental health, whether they plan to do anything with their personal writing or not. He is a dog dad, carpenter, and disc golfer. He thinks there are other things about him that might be interesting but is trying to employ brevity here.
About Matthew Vesely
Matthew Vesely collects ironies. Usually, he’s scribbling in his journal while somber music plays in the dark. But, when you meet him, he’s more likely to be giddy talking about new books, reality TV, or dogs. Striving to portray real queer experiences through the lens of fiction, he lives, works, and writes in the Philadelphia area.
