About Bennie F. Johnson

Bennie F. Johnson is the Chief Executive Officer of the American Marketing Association (AMA) — the essential community for marketers, educators, and thought leaders. Under his leadership, the AMA connects a vibrant network of over 70 professional chapters and 350 collegiate chapters across North America.

A dynamic advocate for creativity and innovation, Bennie previously served as Executive Director of AIGA, the professional association for design, where he launched impactful programs such as the Design Adjacent podcast and the Design Leadership Fireside Chat series.

He currently serves on the Board of Overseers for Columbia University’s School of Professional Studies, is a former Board Chair of the Smithsonian’s Anacostia Community Museum, and was recently appointed to the Board of the Phillips Collection in Washington, DC.

Bennie holds a B.A. from Yale University and an M.S. in Strategic Communications from Columbia University. He is passionate about the intersection of marketing, technology, and education — and about helping the next generation of marketers lead with purpose and impact.
