Join us at the Woodbridge Main Library July 14 at 7PM. In 1858, a nearly complete dinosaur skeleton was excavated on a farm in Haddonfield, New Jersey, a discovery that rocked the scientific world and launched our endless fascination with the world of paleontology.
Registration required. https://woodbridge-nj.libcal.com/event/16713137
Named "Hadrosaurus Foulkii", it was the first dinosaur skeleton to be mounted and displayed for public viewing. Haddonfield also was where "The Bone Wars," began -- a long, bitter and nasty feud between Edward Drinker Cope and Othniel Charles Marsh, the two leading paleontologists of the late 19th century, each trying to gain supremacy of the field. Their rivalry would have enormous consequences, both good and disastrous, for the scientific community, even as it accelerated public interest in the world of dinosaurs.
This program will be presented by Douglas Rauschenberger from the Haddonfield Historical Society.
