Abstract: How can you trust that a thermometer tells you the right temperature? Is a blood test result reliable? Certainty comes from metrology, aka the science of measurement. It ensures a kg in France is the same as a kg in China. But what about something complex, like an Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan? Are scans taken from different scanners comparable? Here, we describe metrology, MRI and discuss how the two combine in ways that might surprise you!
