The Wisconsin Wind Orchestra the Midwest’s premiere professional chamber wind ensemble proudly announces its upcoming concert at its new home base of operations St. Lukes Lutheran Church in Waukesha. The church’s organist/music director Michael Schaner recently invited the ensemble to enter an ongoing musical collaboration with St. Lukes periodically presenting concerts for the community and providing music for Sunday morning church services. The concert presented on Sunday November 23 at 4pm will be the inaugural concert in the group’s new home. It is free and open to the public. A freewill offering will be taken.
The 11-member ensemble is conducted by Dr. Lawrence Dale Harper Emeritus Professor of Music at Carroll University and consists of two woodwind quintets and a string bass. Harper established the Wisconsin Wind Orchestra in 1995 as one of the few professional wind ensembles in the world. They regularly perform concerts at venues throughout Wisconsin have made numerous CD recordings acclaimed by the American Record Guide and the World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles and have appeared in concerts and radio broadcasts at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam and the Conservatorio F. Morlacchi in Perugia Italy. In their Europe concert tour of 2017 they were featured artists at the Segni Barocchi Festival of Foligno Italy and appeared in concert in front of a sold-out audience at the Teatro della Concordia in Montecastello di Vibio Italy. In 2015 and 2017 they were also artists-in-residence at the International Music Project's International Conducting Symposium of Umbria Italy. In addition the group has made two concert tours of California in recent years offering community concerts as well as high school and university masterclasses for developing young musicians.
November 23 concert is entitled “How Suite It Is!” and will include two romantic and beautiful suites by international composers: the delightful Petite Suite by Finnish composer Jean Sibelius and the exotic Suite Persane (Persian Suite) by French composer André Caplet. Rounding out the varied program will be the Overture in the Italian Style by Franz Schubert and the Concerto for Oboe and Bassoon by famed Italian genius Antonio Vivaldi featuring long-time principal players Suzanne Geoffrey and Andrew Jackson.
