Irish Mancunian presents a screening of the award-winning film "The Wind That Shakes The Barley".Director Ken Loach explores Ireland’s War of Independence and Civil War through the figure of young revolutionary Damien O’Donovan (played by Cillian Murphy). Abandoning his career as a doctor, Damien comes home to Cork and joins his brother Teddy in the fight against the British Empire. When The Treaty is negotiated and Civil War erupts, Damien is torn between family and his political commitments. A deserved Palme d’Or winner at Cannes, the film caused uproar in the British press on its release in 2006.
