A police sergeant, searching for a missing girl, goes to a remote Scottish island whose villagers claim she never existed.
Robin Hardy's 1973 British folk-horror is a masterpiece of the form that the Guardian calls "a strange but essential B-movie artifact."
"The film is a wild, rare confection – a product of true vision made for little money that endures both as a film and as a key object of influence on much of the great art that has come since," wrote critic Shaad D'Souza in 2020. "Like Howie’s visit to Summerisle, a viewing of The Wicker Man is a trip you’re likely to find hard to shake."
The May 1-4 screenings of The Wicker Man are being done in partnership with Left Of The Dial, and John Null is programming a special folk-horror pre-show that can be viewed before each showing.
The Paducah Film Society is Maiden Alley Cinema's own monthly movie club, screening classic, cult, and foreign films in western Kentucky. PFS is supported by Maiden Alley Cinema, WKMS, and local donors.
