The What's and How's of Ski Touring with the SlowSkinners

THE SLOWSKINNERS ARE BACK TO TALK ABOUT TWO IMPORTANT THINGS IN THE WORLD OF BACKCOUNTRY SKIING - WHAT TO PACK AND HOW TO WRITE UP YOUR OBSERVATIONS.
Further Faster and SlowSkinners continue to team up to help spread knowledge and experience around ski touring, with a different format this year...
We'll start with a 'what's in the pack' - no influencer spin based on the sponsor's product here! Trail bosses BarLana (technically Bart and Lana) and Bob will lay out their 'people' (think chalk outlines in a whodunit), showing what layers actually work - from a sneaky side country stash to a full backcountry 'bob day' out (yes, they're a thing), to overseas touring.
We'll also open our packs to show the kit we've found to be safe, useful, and as light as possible for our conditions. This is designed to be a 'touch, pause, engage' (is that still even a rugby reference?) exercise - chat and question away, share your thoughts too!
Then a 'how to write up obs' (observations). It's uber helpful to know what happened when, as we scheme our missions. Avalanche Advisory is a valuable resource for getting a forecast and is a great first place to start. We Skinners, go out where forecasters often don't, so we can add to their data sets by adding our obs - of snow conditions and observed avalanches (hopefully past!). We can upload our own, plus view old ones to start building up a comprehensive picture of what we might expect as we head out. Bart and Lana will present a brief 'how to', then we'll break into groups and have a go.
As usual, we'll be raising funds! This time the worthy recipient is Alpine Rescue Canterbury [https://alpinerescuecanterbury.com/] and we're stoked to help support them.
No snow yet to get slidy with... but should be close or just sneaking in, by the date of this session - so get your stoke up, check your gear, sharpen your scheming skills and let's be social!
