The Water We Count On: Securing Houston's Future
About this Event
Houston’s Water: Thinking Beyond the Next Election
Election cycles encourage short-term thinking, but some things require us to think long term. Houston’s water infrastructure is one of them. We think about water during hurricane season, less so about the everyday water that keeps our lives going: in our homes, at the Texas Medical Center, and across the 274 industry and utility connections that depend on the City of Houston’s supply.
Our water system faces two challenges at once. Our aging systems are in need of repair and our growing region needs new capacity to serve new homes and businesses. Both require sustained investment, and both are solvable.
Our panelists, with Moderation by Alia Vinson (Senior Fellow Class 61 and Partner at Allen Boone Humphries Robinson LLP) will walk through how our water system works, what’s at stake for our region, and where leaders and residents like you can make a real difference. You’ll leave with a clearer picture of the issue and concrete ways to help move Houston forward.
Panelists:
- Michael Turco: General Manager, Harris-Galveston Subsidence District
- Drew Molly, PE: Chief Water Officer, Houston Public Works
- Mark Evans: Chair, Region H Water Planning Group
Special Thanks to our Sponsor: Greg Olinger and Coastal Water Authority
