The Warming Practice

Exploring San Fu Tian: A Seasonal Moxa & Ginger Workshop

A Seasonal Tradition

Join me for a seasonal outdoor workshop rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine and the practice of San Fu Tian (三伏天).

Traditionally observed on specific dates during the hottest part of summer, San Fu Tian is a seasonal practice that uses warming therapies such as moxibustion, ginger, and herbal applications during peak summer heat. Historically, these practices have been used to support warmth, circulation, vitality, and overall wellness.

Classical approaches often involve repeating moxa and herbal applications across the primary San Fu days throughout the season. For that reason, this workshop is offered on multiple dates. You’re welcome to attend a single workshop to learn about the tradition and experience the practice, or return throughout the season to continue with moxa and optional herbal patch applications.

Together we’ll explore the history and principles of San Fu Tian, learn about moxa safety and seasonal care practices, share tea, and experience this tradition in a calm, supportive outdoor setting.

No prior experience is necessary.

Why Participate in San Fu Tian?

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, San Fu Tian is based on the principle of “treating winter conditions in summer.” Traditionally, warming therapies such as moxibustion, ginger, and herbal applications have been used during this season to support Yang Qi, strengthen Wei Qi (the body’s defensive energy), and cultivate warmth, vitality, and resilience before the colder months arrive.

Many people are drawn to this practice because they:

• Tend to catch frequent colds or seasonal illnesses
• Feel cold easily, especially in their hands and feet
• Experience low energy or fatigue
• Feel depleted after periods of stress or overwork
• Notice their well-being changes with the seasons
• Enjoy preventative and seasonal approaches to health
• Wish to cultivate greater warmth, vitality, and resilience

While individual experiences vary, many people describe feeling deeply relaxed, grounded, warmed, and nourished after moxibustion.
