About this Event
DJANGO MEETS FRENCH CHANSON
Award-winning violinist Eva Slongo and guitarist Jimmy Grant present an intimate and swinging duo rooted in the gypsy jazz tradition of Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli. Their music draws equally from European jazz, Eastern European folk influences, and classic vocal jazz, resulting in a sound that feels both timeless and accessible to modern audiences.
“I am happy to welcome the young and talented Eva Slongo into the small club of modern jazz violinists. Herplaying and composing are both inspired and musical and her beautiful singing ability adds a unique touch to her album, on which we also hear top musicians and a beautiful solo by Didier Lockwood. »
Jean-Luc Ponty
"Jimmy Grant is a superb Django-style player, someone who understands the master’s inherent lyricism, creating resonant melodies full of memorable phrases” -Michael Steinman Jazz Lives
Joining Jimmy and Eva is the young American, Sam Farthing, 22, from Baltimore. Ever since picking up the guitar at 12, musicians from around the world have been listening to his phenomenal playing, forged by his studies with players in Europe and his tireless efforts in acquiring mastery of the style. Sam's contribution to this concert will be a treat for the audience!
Rounding out the group on bass is Zack Valentine, from New Orleans. Zach is the perfect foil for this group as he has accompanied some of the best players in the world and his enthusiasm for the music is infectious.
