Modern life often keeps our nervous system in a constant state of doing, rushing, and reacting. While stress is an unavoidable part of life, our ability to recover from it is something we can cultivate.
This six-week Kundalini Yoga series explores practices that support one of the body's most fascinating communication pathways: the vagus nerve.
The vagus nerve is the longest cranial nerve in the body and serves as a major communication highway between the brain and many of our vital organs, including the heart, lungs, digestive system, and facial muscles. It plays a central role in the parasympathetic nervous system—our body's natural "rest, digest, and restore" response.
When we experience chronic stress, our nervous system can become caught in patterns of tension, vigilance, or overwhelm. Through conscious breathing, mindful movement, meditation, relaxation, and sound practices, we can create the conditions for the nervous system to move toward greater balance and resilience.
While no single practice is a cure-all, growing scientific research suggests that slow breathing, gentle movement, humming, chanting, vocalization, and deep relaxation can support healthy vagal function and improve our capacity to recover from stress.
Over these six weeks, we'll explore Kundalini Yoga practices that cultivate:
a greater sense of safety and grounding
calmer breathing and nervous system regulation
emotional flexibility
healthy stress recovery
deeper connection with ourselves and others
greater resilience in everyday life
Each week we'll explore Kundalini Yoga practices that support the body's relaxation response, breathing efficiency, emotional regulation, and social engagement—all functions associated with healthy vagal tone.
The goal isn't to eliminate stress. The goal is to strengthen your capacity to meet life's challenges with a calmer mind, a steadier body, and a more open heart.
Weekly Journey
Week 1 — Safety & Grounding
Nervous System Focus: Establishing regulation
We'll begin by creating a foundation of safety in the body. Through grounding movement, conscious breathing, and simple meditation, we'll explore how slowing down allows the nervous system to shift from vigilance toward stability and ease.
Week 2 — Breath & Resilience
Nervous System Focus: Lengthening the exhale
Our breath is one of the most accessible ways to influence the nervous system. This week we'll work with breathing practices that encourage relaxation, improve breathing efficiency, and support our ability to recover from stress.
Week 3 — Sound & Vibration
Nervous System Focus: Voice, humming & resonance
The vagus nerve is closely connected with the muscles of the throat and voice. Through humming, mantra, chanting, and vibrational practices, we'll experience how sound can become a powerful tool for calming the body and quieting the mind.
Week 4 — Heart & Connection
Nervous System Focus: Social engagement
Healthy vagal function is closely related to our capacity for compassion, communication, and meaningful connection. This week we'll explore practices that cultivate openness, presence, and the embodied experience of connection.
Week 5 — Flexibility & Recovery
Nervous System Focus: Moving between activation and rest
Resilience isn't about staying calm all the time—it's about being able to move fluidly between effort and ease. We'll explore practices that help the nervous system recover more efficiently after challenge and build greater adaptability.
Week 6 — Integration & Everyday Practice
Nervous System Focus: Building a lifelong toolbox
During our final week we'll weave together everything we've learned into a practical collection of breathing techniques, meditations, movement, and sound practices that can be easily integrated into daily life whenever stress arises.
Class Structure
Each week's practices build upon the previous one.
Tuesday morning classes emphasize physical embodiment through Kundalini Yoga kriyas that help awaken awareness and regulate the nervous system through movement.
Thursday morning classes slow the pace, focusing on pranayama, meditation, relaxation, and subtle awareness to deepen the week's theme.
For those attending the Tuesday evening program, both elements are thoughtfully woven together into one 90-minute class that combines movement, pranayama, meditation, and deep relaxation.
Whether you're looking to reduce stress, improve emotional well-being, deepen your yoga practice, or simply learn practical tools for everyday life, this series offers a gentle yet profound journey toward greater calm, resilience, and connection.
