About The Book

The Unvarnished Interiors: Notes from a Life Examined is a collection of sixty reflective essays exploring aging, regret, relationships, self-deception, resilience, and the search for meaning. Drawing on more than four decades as a psychiatrist and a lifetime of personal experience, Jack Baruch examines the distance between what we know intellectually and what we can understand about ourselves. Thoughtful, candid, and deeply personal, the book invites readers not to seek easy answers but to look more closely at the lives they live and the choices that have shaped them.

About The Author

Jack Baruch, MD, is a psychiatrist with more than four decades of experience listening to the stories people tell about their lives—and the stories they sometimes struggle to tell themselves. His work and writing explore self-examination, aging, regret, relationships, and the lifelong challenge of living with greater awareness and honesty. In The Unvarnished Interiors: Notes from a Life Examined, he turns the reflective lens inward, drawing upon his experience as a psychiatrist and his own encounters with the complexities of an examined life.
