The Unlearning Book Club is a community gathering & conversation inspired by books that challenge the systems around us.
Sister duo Claire and Megan will read each month's book, select a handful of passages to share at the gathering, and bring a few questions that spark conversation. You read the book (or don't!) and bring your perspective. Through honest conversation, personal stories, and shared reflection, we'll explore new ideas, challenge assumptions, and learn from one another.
For August we are reading Love in a F*cked-Up World: How to Build Relationships, Hook Up, and Raise Hell Together by Dean Spade. We're not here to teach, we're here to (re)think together. We'll share the passages with the group, then let the conversation unfold.
We'll explore questions such as:
- How do we divest from cultural programming that gives us harmful expectations about sex, dating, romance, and friendship?
- How do we recover from the messed-up dynamics we were trained in by childhood caregivers?
- How do we bring our best thinking about freedom into step with our desires for healing and connection?
Learning happens in community. We think unlearning does, too.
