The Unknowns have stormed out of Brisbane’s punk scene with raw energy and a gift for no‑nonsense songwriting. Growing up in a scene built on grit, humor, and DIY spirit, they soaked up everything that makes Aussie punk tick. Over a handful of releases—most notably East Coast Low (2023)—they’ve built a loyal following while carving their own lane in modern punk. Their third LP, Looking From The Outside, is their strongest yet. It’s a blast of fast, hook‑laden tracks that balance melody and aggression without ever letting up. Sequenced like a sweaty club set, the record drives forward from the first chord to the final crash, leaving no room to catch your breath.
The Unknowns keep it lean and mean. Stripped‑down guitar riffs lock in with pounding drums, while flashes of garage grit and power choruses add dimension. The result? A sound that’s tight, direct, and built to stick in your head without overthinking it. They channel the no‑frills punch of classic punk but with enough twists to keep things fresh.Christopher Anthony

GNOOMES are a psychedelic kosmische-pop duo crafting “seriously delirious and transportive sounds” (Clash) — a shimmering mix of shoegaze radiance, motorik rhythms, and dreamy electronic experimentation.
Formed in Perm, Russia, and now based in Slovenia, Gnoomes are a band in constant motion. From the shimmering dreampop of their debut It’s Moonboow-Time, Boy to the hypnotic techno-kraut drive of Ngan! and Tschak!, their music unfolds like a cosmic road trip through space and emotion. On their latest EP Uletai (2024), they continue “re-assessing and extrapolating sonic boundaries” (Loud and Quiet), led by the mesmerizing 8-minute track “Ule.”
After a long period of performing as a duo, Sasha and Masha Piankov have now been joined by drummer Martin Kramberger from the Slovenian band Moving as a Giant. The return of live drums has given Gnoomes a renewed sense of power and minimalism — amplifying their sound with raw energy and precision.
Their shows are immersive journeys where hypnotic synths, motorik rhythms, and wide-eyed melodies collide — “an epic take on shoegazing,” as Dazed described.
