presented by Amy Niemczura-Sowa
Amy Niemczura-Sowa is a lifelong hiker. She is the first person to complete all the trails, spurs, and mentioned distances in the 12th edition of the Maine Mountain Guide. After briefly discussing formative hiking experiences, she will share photos and stories of less-trampled trails featured in the book. She hopes to encourage others to seek new places and experiences in the state.
Having lived in Maine her entire life, Amy aspires to explore as much of this state as possible. She has lived in Somerset, Hancock, Penobscot, and now Waldo County. She adventures primarily on foot. Under the trail name Whoopie Pie, she has hiked every white blaze of the Maine Appalachian Trail at least twice. Her most recent hiking projects have been hiking all 59 hikes in the Maine Atlas and Gazetteer and every trail, spur, and mentioned distance in the Maine Mountain Guide. She documents her adventures on Instagram, @thewaylifeturnedout, and a blog of the same name. When not on the trail, she tends to her young son (trail name: Rooster) and a flock of Silkie chickens. She works at her dream job in the foodie mecca that is Belfast.
