The Tocobaga of Tampa Bay
About this Event
Presented by Dr. Roger Block, PhD, This presentation discusses what we know of this major Pre-Columbian Indian culture which occupied the Tampa Bay region when the first Spanish expedition arrived in 1528AD on the shores of Boca Ciega Bay. We review eye-witness reports from Spanish diaries which record what the Tocobaga looked like. Archaeological excavations of their village sites and burials add to our knowledge regarding their village architecture, their diet, art and what we can discern about their spirituality.
