On June 23, Viking ship builder Jay Smith of Washington State will be presenting on the joys and challenges of building the Valkyrie. This event is free and will take place in the ship gallery theater at 6pm.Smith's talk will highlight Viking culture and traditional ship construction, from harvesting trees to the launch of the Valkyrie.
The Valkyrie was created as a promise between David Knudsen to his dying father Heinrich. Valkyrie was launched in the spring of 2024 and now sails the Salish Sea in Washington State.
Jay Smith has spent a number of years on this project and others. Smith even helped build the small boat Inga used by the crew of the Hjemkomst!
