The Third Voice blends exquisite vocal harmonies with guitar, live-looping, concertina,accordion, shruti and percussion in a programme of originals, re-imagined material by great songwriters and Afro-Cuban chants to the goddesses of nature. This is melded together by strong themes of social justice, women's issues and care for the environment. Their recent self-titled EP was shortlisted for best Debut at the Australian Folk Music Awards 2025. Each singer is a writer and arranger as well as highly skilled vocal specialist ranging from Cuban traditions (Clarita Derwent) via folk songwriting (Christina Mimmocchi) to Transylvanian folk (Gemma Turner).
PerSisters is a song duo of Margaret Walters and Christina Mimmocchi, both carriers of the folk tradition flame. Margaret is a legend of the Australian folk scene, both as a solo singer and as a member of the Roaring Forties and now Forty Degrees South, and formerly in partnership with songwriter John Warner. Her warm, complex voice has graced songs ranging from traditional ballads, through sea shanties, blues, and songs of industrial life, to contemporary songs of the environment.
