Ah, Thanksgiving, that most American of holidays: when families gather to celebrate the warmth of home, the bounty of the harvest — and a legacy of genocide and violent colonial expansion. Good intentions collide with absurd assumptions in Larissa FastHorse’s wickedly funny satire, as a troupe of terminally “woke” teaching artists scrambles to create a pageant that somehow manages to celebrate both Turkey Day and Native American Heritage Month.
The Thanksgiving Play features Workshop veterans - Marshall Spann (The Minutes, Glass Menagerie, Harvey, Torch Song), Katie Mixon (Glass Menagerie, Harvey, Sordid Lives), and Hans Boeschen (Chorus Line, The Producers, Frozen Jr and Shrek Jr- director). Making her Workshop debut is Emily Banks.
The production team for The Thanksgiving Play includes director Jocelyn Sanders, co-producers Jeni McCaughan and Taylor Diveley, stage manager Lori Brown, technical director Patrick Faulds, costume designer Andie Nicks, and fight coordinator Patrick Michael Kelly.
Larissa FastHorse is an award-winning playwright, director, choreographer and performer based in Santa Monica, CA. Her honors include: the PEN/USA Literary Award for Drama, NEA Distinguished New Play Development Grant, Joe Dowling Annamakerrig Fellowship, AATE Distinguished Play Award, Inge Residency, Sundance/Ford Foundation Fellowship, Aurand Harris Fellowship, and numerous Ford Foundation and NEA Grants.
