The TERRY GORDON QUINTET, perfoming live on SATURDAY, NOVEMEBER 11th at the VAN DYCK MUSIC CLUB!

The Terry Gordon Quintet features Eric Walentowicz (saxophones), Michael-Louis Smith (guitar), Bill Lawrence (bass), and Pete Sweeney (drums); led by Terry Gordon (trumpet, flugelhorn).

The Van Dyck has been hosting jazz in Schenectady for just under 80 years. The 'Van Dyck Music Club' was re-opened to the public in 2024 by Chris Sule & John Reilly, owners and operators of Stella Pasta Bar & Seven Points Brewery on the first floor.

Terry Gordon: Trumpeter/composer Terry Gordon is active in a wide variety of musical styles from jazz, Latin, and big band, to rock, classical, and contemporary Christian worship music. He performs regularly with several groups, including Alex Torres y su Orquesta, the Terry Gordon Quintet, the Arch Stanton Quartet, Soul Provider, and Brass-O-Mania, and has appeared on over 40 recordings including five adventurous collections of original music with the Eddie Award-nominated Terry Gordon Quintet, and three with the Arch Stanton Quartet. He has appeared at major venues such as the Montreal International Jazz Festival, the Rochester International Jazz Festival, the Cairo International Jazz Festival (Egypt), Lincoln Center, the Albany Riverfront Jazz Festival, Jazz In The Square (Syracuse, NY), Musikfest (Bethlehem, Pa.), and many other festivals and venues around the country, and has also appeared on stage with Bobby Rydell, Leslie Gore, and The Temptations. He has recorded several acclaimed albums with the award-winning salsa band Alex Torres y su Orquesta, whose music can be heard in many television shows and motion pictures including Walt Disney’s Old Dogs and HBO’s White House Plumbers. As a member of the Empire Jazz Orchestra he has backed up such jazz luminaries as Jimmy Heath, Benny Golson, Randy Brecker, Slide Hampton, Rufus Reid, Lew Soloff, Wycliffe Gordon, The Four Freshmen, and David “Fathead” Newman.

Eric Walentowicz: Saxophonist/Composer-Arranger/Woodwinds has thirty-five years of performing experience as a musician having started playing professionally at age thirteen. A highly skilled, versatile, talented, and in-demand reedman, known for his improvised saxophone solo's and having backed such artists as Johnny Mathis (Palace Theatre) and Laurel Masse (the Egg) and performed at the "UpBeat on the Roof" Tang Concert Series with Terry Gordon Quintet and Jill Hughes Group, the "Bridge Jazz Festival" at Troy Savings Music Hall with the "Dr. Tim Olsen-Eric Walentowicz Duo," the Albany Riverfront Jazz Festival and "Pittsfield Ethnic Festival" with Bronte Roman Pop-Latin-Jazz Ensemble and over (500) five hundred events for the New York Players Entertainment Group, The Dallas Jazz Orchestra, The One O’clock Jazz Lab Band at North Texas, The Platters and Jackie Mason at the Fontainebleau in Miami FL, Rick DellaRatta’s Jazz For Peace, the Schenectady Symphony, the Fox Theater Detroit Michigan, the Miami Symphony Orchestra (Rhapsody and Blue) and Calle Ocho Festival with Miami-based Latin bands specializing in Salsa, Merengue, and Cumbia styles. As a staff musician for Norwegian Cruise lines he backed Bobby Rydell, Fabian, Eddie Fisher, George Merritt and Ray Anthony.

Michael-Louis Smith: Jazz guitarist, composer and american musician Michael-Louis Smith was born in Schenectady NY on September 13th 1977.For over 25 years, has performed throughout the United States, and beyond at music festivals, clubs and private events at notable venues such as the Apollo Theater in New York City, and the Troubadour in Hollywood CA. The musicians in his ensembles are some of the finest in the world, and have performed at home in the New York metropolitan area and on the road for over two decades. Smith’s recorded albums are available for download or streaming on all platforms worldwide.

Bill Lawrence: Bill is a long-standing member of the TGQ, as well as performing locally with various jazz, cover and wedding bands. In addition, he is actively involved in writing and recording original music with his 'virtual' funk/fusion band the Funkdawgs, which has been recording music over the internet for 25+ years. His original music can be heard on YouTube.com: @bassistbilllawrence.

Pete Sweeney: Pete is a drummer, educator, and author living in Brunswick NY. He is currently performing with the Art D’Echo Trio, Tim Olsen’s ensemble, as well as the Terry Gordon Quintet. He is the author of 20 instructional books for the Alfred Publishing Company as well as 5 curriculum books for the School of Rock franchise. He has performed with Pat Metheny, Lee Ritenour, and Nick Brignola.
