This five-week class is designed for students who have completed at least one course with the instructor and for others who have basic skills of watercolor techniques. All successful paintings require intention and some planning. Although you may be resistant to the planning stage, accomplished painters share that the planning process is an imaginative undertaking, as essential as learning watercolor techniques. This introductory course will focus on creating original paintings, providing basic practical steps to transform your photograph, reference material, and imagination into dynamic compositions. Instruction will include the following: selecting and editing photos, identifying and placing the center of interest, format and proportion, transferring image to watercolor paper, choosing a color scheme, and more. In addition, we will review differing techniques that can be used to create a sense of texture and depth. Instructional tools include handouts, demonstrations, reference materials for practice, and personal assistance. For additional information regarding content of the class, please contact the instructor at [email protected]. To ensure your space, pre-registration is required by contacting Lorie Barnes in the office at (530) 221-4849.
