Join us for this month's instalment of the Talisman Open Mic, this month featuring guest poet Phil Jones.
Phil Jones was born in Birmingham and since then he has lived in Pembrokeshire, Cardiff, Bristol and Edinburgh. He now lives in Cardiff once again, with his partner, Philippa, and their cat, Mila. His working life has seen him harvesting daffodil bulbs on the fields outside St. David’s and zooming around Wales for various arts charities. He is currently studying for a PhD in Creative Writing at Aberystwyth University.
Phil’s debut poetry pamphlet Summer’s Work was published in summer 2024 by Green Bottle Press. He is a Hay Festival Writer at Work, won the Planet New Writers’ Article Competition, and came runner-up in the New Welsh Review New Welsh Writing Awards. As a musician he records and performs under the name Dusty Cut.
Ganed Phil Jones yn Birmingham ac ers hynny mae wedi byw yn Sir Benfro, Caerdydd, Bryste a Chaeredin. Mae bellach yn byw yng Nghaerdydd unwaith eto, gyda'i bartner, Philippa, a'u cath, Mila. Mae ei fywyd gwaith wedi ei weld yn cynaeafu bylbiau cennin Pedr ar y caeau y tu allan i Dyddewi a theithio o gwmpas Cymru ar ran amrywiol elusennau celfyddydol. Ar hyn o bryd mae’n astudio am PhD mewn Ysgrifennu Creadigol ym Mhrifysgol Aberystwyth.
Cyhoeddwyd pamffled cyntaf Phil o farddoniaeth, Summer's Work, yn haf 2024 gan Green Bottle Press. Mae’n Awdur ar Waith Gŵyl y Gelli; enillodd Gystadleuaeth Erthygl Awduron Newydd y cylchgrawn Planet, a daeth yn ail yng Ngwobrau Ysgrifennu Cymreig Newydd y New Welsh Review. Fel cerddor mae'n recordio ac yn perfformio dan yr enw Dusty Cut.
Phil will be giving a reading which will be followed by the regular open mic section of the night.
The Talisman Poetry & Spoken Word Open Mic is now held on the last Thursday of every month, and is a staple of the Swansea poetry scene.
Join a friendly crowd in our welcoming venue - whether you've just written a poem for the first time or are a published writer, have read before or not - all are welcome and encouraged to contribute.
Free entry, sign up from 7pm before performances from 8pm.
