In 1979, the Sugarhill Gang—originally Wonder Mike, Master Gee, and Big Bank Hank—launched hip-hop into the mainstream with “Rapper’s Delight.” Selling over 8 million copies, it became the best-selling rap single of all time. Sugarhill Gang is believed to be the first professional Hip Hop group. The Furious 5 were the first rap group to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and took the world by storm with their iconic single, “The Message."
