Drawing on an extraordinary collection of original documents on loan from the National Archives, we will take you on a journey through 250 years of debates, decisions, and declarations that shaped our democracy—from the Louisiana Purchase to the surrender at Fort Sumter, from the Truman Doctrine to the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and Brown v. Board of Education. Join us to reflect on the ongoing development of the great American experiment—democracy.

Cassie Pikarsky is the Director of Strategic Initiatives for the Truman Library Institute. In this role, she served as project lead for the $30-million renovation of the Truman Library, managed the commission of a statue of President Truman installed in the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., in 2022 and Truman Hall in Brussels, Belgium, in 2024, and organized the Truman Civil Rights Symposium commemorating President Truman’s desegregation of the U.S. military by executive order and featuring keynote remarks from the President of the United States.

She rejoined the Truman Library Institute in 2018 after beginning her career with the Institute as a two-time college intern. Prior to returning to work for the 33rd president, she managed The National Museum of Toys and Miniatures’ first public capital campaign, implemented a name change and rebranding, and served on the renovation team for an $8-million upgrade to the facility and re-envisioning of the exhibits. She has an MBA from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, an MA in History Museum Studies from the State University of New York at Oneonta, and a BA in History and Business from Truman State University.
