Nestled in the heart of Bristol, St Werburghs City Farm is an integral part of the local community, strengthening connections between land, animals and people for more than 45 yearsPaul Sander-Jackson and his wife Sarah moved to Bristol in 1978 and they founded St Werburghs City Farm in 1980. They were joint co-ordinators for the farm until 1985.
Paul will tell us the story of the farm, beginning with his and Sarah's background in farming. He will look at the history of the site, how the farm was funded, the buildings, activities, the support of the local community and the effect the farm had on people’s lives and on the local area. Paul will put the founding years of the farm in the context of the social, political and philosophical ‘zeitgeist’ of the time.
In a varied career, Paul helped to set up Riverside Garden Centre, was as a social and community enterprise adviser and a director at various social and environmental organisations. Now retired, he is an active volunteer with the Friends of Oldbury Court and is Bristol Tree Forum’s Tree Champion for the Frome Vale Ward.
