The tale of Margaret Catchpole has been shrouded in mystery and drama ever since its writing. The famous horse stealer escaped Ipswich jail, went on the run, and was eventually transported to Australia.
Anthony Cobbold, the author's two times great nephew and founder of The Cobbold Family History Trust, will describe his efforts to disentangle fact from fiction in this talk. But even he doesn't know all the answers.
Part of our Behind Bars: Suffolk's Criminal Past exhibition, the centrepiece of which are letters from Margaret to friends and family in the UK during her Australian exile. On show in the UK for the first time.
