The Story Behind the Stories in the Book “Histories of Newark: 1798 to 2008

This is a lively talk by Ray Nichols and Jill Cypher, graphic designers and photographers for the book. It features images and we-were-there descriptions of the many efforts by volunteer citizens to capture the past and present of what we know today as the City of Newark. Highlights include the 3,900-Citizen Band, the surprising cause of Radio-Free Newark, and the ones that got away. Today, Nichols and Cypher operate Lead Graffiti, a letterpress lab in Newark that offers creative and technical workshops for all ages in hand setting type, printing, and bookmaking.
